Addlestone Library has been a fixture on campus for almost 20 years, but what came before it?

This 1927 photo captures Towell Library, the College’s main library from 1856 to 1972. Initially, the College’s books were housed in Randolph Hall, but after a generous donation of 4,000 volumes the need for a dedicated library was clear. Designed by architect George Edward Walker in a Greek Revival style, Towell Library was completed in 1856 and served until the Robert Scott Small Library opened in 1972. Today, it houses the Office of Alumni Affairs, continuing its legacy of service to the College community.
