Printing and other Technology Problems @ the Library - College of Charleston Libraries
We understand and apologize for the frustration due to the print management system currently being broken. What is now implemented is a quick fix to allow students to print. Please bear with us as in a lab environment of 250 computer and students using them all day, there is no easy fix one can implement. IT is and has been working with the vendor to find a solution and they’ve assigned a specialist from Atlanta to help diagnose and fix the problem. Again, we apologize for the frustration and inconvenience as we know students need to be able to print. I will update the campus as we know more by posting to this blog and I will also attempt to tweet at least one update per day @JamesWilliamsI2 until the problem is resolved. Also feel free to email me at williamsj@cofc.edu with questions and concerns or submit comments here.
The speed of the PC’s in the library is a different issue and one experienced across campus with the move to Windows 7. IT has done a few tweaks but essentially Windows 7 handles user profiles differently than Windows XP and takes much longer to load in a lab environment since the user’s personal profile isn’t stored on the machine as it is on personal devices. The profile has to be loaded each time you log in. Again, IT is researching the issue to develop a solution.
Thank you for your concern!
