Summer is nearly over and College of Charleston students will be returning to campus next week! Despite the decrease in traffic around campus – and in the Addlestone Library – the FOL has been busy over the summer! Be on the lookout in early September for the fall edition of Discovery, our Friends of the Library newsletter!

Check the EVENTS page for announcements about our fall speakers series! Mark your calendar for Friday, September 24th, as we’ll host a special exhibit opening, “A Visual Legacy: the Halsey-McCallum Collection at the College of Charleston.” The exhibit will feature more than a dozen Haley and McCallum paintings, as well sketches and photographs from the Halsey and McCallum collection at the College of Charleston library. Stay tuned for more information!

We are dedicating the entire 2010-2011 academic year speakers series to the environment with our series, “Going Green: Fad or Forever?” We’ll be bringing in College of Charleston faculty experts, community leaders on green issues, and even regional and national speakers on all-things green!

On Friday, October 22nd, we’re kicking off the series with an exhibit by Bryant Holsenbeck, a Durham-based environmental artist who will creating a three-dimensional installation – made entirely out of recyclable materials!

And, we’ll host NPR journalist Linda Gradstein as our fall Winthrop Roundtable speaker on Thursday, October 14th. Ms. Gradstein will discuss the challenges that face American journalists when covering international conflicts, specifically as it relates to her two-decade post as the Israel/Palestinian correspondent for NPR.

Thank you for your support of the Friends of the Library! We hope to see you around campus this fall!

Addlestone Library is open to the College of Charleston community and affiliates via card access. Visitors may access Addlestone Library Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, and must present a government issued ID and sign in upon entry.
