Library Mission

Goals

Goal 1: College of Charleston Libraries enhance learning through promotion of the Libraries’ content in curriculum design, through a greater commitment to teaching across all disciplines, and through the integration of instructional services and technologies into the classroom.

Goal 2: The Libraries create and collect authoritative content and deliver it both physically and virtually to our students and faculty. The Libraries digitize and make accessible unique local resources and respond effectively to external developments.

Goal 3: To facilitate learning and serve library users from across the region, the Libraries provide adequate collaborative spaces, protection of quiet study, and an overall attractive and welcoming environment. In addition, we provide the technology necessary to support teaching and learning at the College of Charleston. We evaluate and meet patrons’ comfort and technology needs and continue to modify and enhance our facilities so they remain a pleasant place to study and research.

Goal 4: Cutting edge technology is a necessity in support of knowledge seeking and collaboration at the highest levels. The Libraries have a plan in place that provides funding for robust networks, scalable servers, flexible computers and other current and future technologies.

Vision

The College of Charleston Marlene and Nathan Addlestone Library is the premier research library for the region. With its comprehensive collections, the library serves as a dynamic hub of discovery that supports education at the highest levels. We teach our community to think ethically and critically about information. We preserve the history of the institution and the region. We deliver professional service and instruction, and engage in strategic, creative partnerships. We advance intellectual and cultural excellence.
