Join the Friends of the Library for an exhibition of student designs for a monument honoring thirty-six Charlestonians of African origin and descent, buried near Anson Street in the late 1700s.

Where: Marlene and Nathan Addlestone Library Rotunda, First Floor

This is the final project for the Art & Architectural History course, The Architecture of Memory. The exhibition is the result of a semester-long collaboration between the Gullah Society, the Art & Architectural History Department, the Friends of the Library, and the Sustainability Literacy Initiative of the College of Charleston.

It is part of a larger public conversation being led by the Gullah Society on the best ways to honor the African Ancestors whose graves were discovered during the renovation of the Gaillard Performing Arts Center: www.thegullahsociety.com

Addlestone Library is open to the College of Charleston community and affiliates via card access. Visitors may access Addlestone Library Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, and must present a government issued ID and sign in upon entry.
