FOL Book Club – Edmund de Waal's The Hare with Amber Eyes - College of Charleston Libraries

November 18, 2015
Spotlight, Friends of the Library

Tuesday, December 1, 6PM, Addlestone Library Special Collections.

Join the Friends of the Library for an exciting Book Club conversation with Dr. Nan Morrison. We’ll be discussing Edmund de Waal’s The Hare With Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance. When world-famous ceramicist, Edmond de Waal, inherits a collection of 264 tiny Japanese wood and ivory carvings, called netsuke, he wants to know who touched and held them, and how the collection managed to survive. And so beings this extraordinarily moving memoir and detective story as de Waal discovers the story of the netsuke, his Jewish heritage, and his family, the Ephrussis, over five generations. Published in 2010, The Hare with Amber Eyes is a New York Times Best Seller, an Economist Book of the Year, and the Costa Book Award Winner for Biography. For more about the book and the author, click here.

As a special feature of this Book Club, photographs and historic materials from the College of Charleston’s Jewish Heritage Collection will also be displayed for one night only. For more information about the Jewish Heritage Collection, please click here.

This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited! Please RSVP to Amanda Noll, nolla@cofc.edu.
