Spotlight, Events, College of Charleston

December 4, 2015, Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church, 9:00am – 7:30pm.

As the six month anniversary of the Mother Emanuel A.M.E. shooting approaches, join national and local public health and faith leaders, along with medical, legal and law enforcement officials, to discuss the gun violence crisis in South Carolina and our nation. Through the lens of research-based evidence, participants will learn the impact of guns on our citizens, communities and national economy while evaluating the role of guns in your neighborhood. Furthermore, participants will be asked to answer the call to help Charleston move from crisis and bloodshed to action and healing. Some of the topics covered during panel discussions throughout the day will include:

  • Facing the Facts: How Gun Violence is Shaping Life in America
  • How the Faith Community Can Lead the Way on Educating about Gun Risks
  • Saving Lives by Keeping Guns from High Risk People
  • Easy Methods for Reducing Preventable Gun Deaths and Injuries to Children
  • How Safer Communities and the Second Amendment Can Coexist
