Check Out the Charleston as a Classroom Tumblr! - College of Charleston Libraries
The First Year Seminar “Charleston as a Classroom: Exploring the City’s Archives and Historic Sites” taught by Dale Rosengarten introduces students to the rich historical resources housed on every street in Charleston. Over the course of the spring semester students have engaged in fieldwork, archival research, and the practice of museum studies. They have explored the evolution of neighborhoods and the construction of social boundaries. In addition to weekly lectures, students visit nearby historical sites every week including Drayton Hall, Avery Research Center, and K.K. Beth Elohim. They document their visits with photos and narratives on their class Tumblr. Special thanks to Loni Lewis, embedded librarian, and Catherine Mueller, peer facilitator, for their assistance coordinating the project. The Tumblr is a continual work in progress, so keep checking back for the rest of the semester!
