2019 Winthrop Roundtable feat. Arlinda Locklear ‘73 - College of Charleston Libraries
The 2019 Winthrop Roundtable
A Conversation with Arlinda Locklear ‘73
Thursday, March 21, 2019
Marlene and Nathan Addlestone Library
6:00 p.m. Keynote Address
Following the keynote, please join the Friends for a cocktail reception.
As the College celebrates the centennial of its first female student with the Year of Women, the Friends of the Library welcome you to join us for an evening with alumna Arlinda Locklear ’73.
Locklear knows the law. The first Native American woman to argue before
the U.S. Supreme Court, Locklear has twice served as lead counsel in cases in which the nation’s highest court ruled in favor of tribal parties-seeking justice that has proven elusive and long overdue for many issues facing Native Americans.
With Locklear as this year’s honoree, the Winthrop Roundtable – begun nearly three decades ago as a small gathering of friends in John and Libby Winthrop’s home – continues its legacy of celebrating women leaders, including Martha Ingram, Darla Moore, Cokie Roberts, and more.
The Winthrop Roundtable is the Friends of the Libraries’ signature event honoring the support of its Friends at the Contributor-level and above. In addition to two complimentary VIP tickets to the Winthrop Roundtable, Friends receive year-round benefits.
“We hope this year will serve as inspiration to women of all ages around Charleston— and the world – as to what is possible when you dare to dream and are empowered to achieve.”
-College of Charleston Interim President Stephen Osborne ‘73
