Members of the LGBTQ community face an elevated risk of suicide four-times greater than that among their heterosexual counterparts. Social stigma, discrimination, unsafe schools, and ineffective providers all contribute to this disparity.

To increase awareness of this issue, students and several on-campus organizations have taken matters into their own hands.

Beginning on Monday, Nov. 6, Addlestone Library’s Rotunda will feature The College Cares LGBTQ Quilt created by students during LGBTQ History Month (every October).

The College Cares LGBTQ Quilt is a collaboration between the Office of Institutional Diversity, Counseling and Substance Abuse Services, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Higdon Student Leadership Center, SafeZone, and the Office of Student Life.

The quilt will be on display through Friday, Nov. 10.

Addlestone Library is open to the College of Charleston community and affiliates via card access. Visitors may access Addlestone Library Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, and must present a government issued ID and sign in upon entry.
